While preparing for PTE Academic you might have wondered – How many hours of preparation is sufficient? How much time shall I spend on my PTE studies? In this video you will learn how much time you need to spend. You will also learn how best to spend that time.
Time is only one factor
It is important to understand that the time you spend on your PTE preparation is just one factor. Your success also depends on your choice of study materials and the methods you follow. It is better to spend one hour with high quality materials than ten hours on poor ineffective materials.
Indicative time requirement
As a rough estimate you should spend at least a month on your PTE preparation. Of course if your English level is at top notch, you can become familiar with PTE Academic in a shorter time and still do well at it. On the other hand if your English level is very basic, then you might need more than a month to prepare well. However, as a thumb rule we advise our students to spare at least a month for PTE study. Further you should spend at least 1 to 2 hours dedicatedly each day on any chosen PTE topic. Along with this you can spend 10 to 20 minutes on the go during the day.
Focus properly
During your dedicated 1 to 2 hours focus only on one or maximum two PTE topics. Do not do a little bit of this and a little bit of that. If you are focusing only on a few topics such as the PTE describe image or PTE retell lecture, you will be able to dive deep into them and understand them much better. It also helps if you fix a time and study only on that time each day. For some people this can be from 9 PM to 10 PM after they have finished all their daily chores. Others might prefer to study early morning from 4 AM To 6 AM when it’s quite and they have more energy.
You can be more flexible when it comes to your on the go study time of 10 to 20 minutes. This time should be spent on sharpening your core skills. You can spend this on brushing up your PTE vocabulary, listening to some English audios, reading some articles on news websites or practicing your typing skills. You can vary your focus area on a daily basis.
Your exact time requirements will depend very much on your specific situation. Whether you are targeting 79 or 65, whether you work or study in an environment where you already speak in English or not, whether you are already confident in your core language skills – all these factors will decide your ultimate plan.
But more or less you can follow the guidelines in this article and take them as your starting point.
